Xplorers
WELCOME TO XPLORERS AT TRINITY HOUSE
If your children are anything like mine, you will now have a little “three-nager” ruling your life! It’s been an age getting here but it’s also gone in the blink of an eye – you see children with personalities, a sense of humour, expression of likes and dislikes and a growing curiosity about everything around them.
This really is an incredible age, its hard work but so rewarding and generally hilarious!
From a childcare perspective, turning three is an important milestone – parents are able to access grant funded childcare and your children will move into a “Pre-School” setting, where the next few years will should be spent preparing them for school when they turn five.

What can our little Xplorers expect?
At this age we can really broaden the scope of activities offered to children, from PE and language lessons to more formal sessions to help basic English and Mathematics. Our Educational program will run 51 weeks of the year (unlike a school operating in term times) and your children will benefit from:

Show and tell

Physical education

English letters and sounds

Skilful Scientists and Mastermind Maths

Relaxation, yoga and movement sessions

Information technology
Children are encouraged to develop skills in the 7 areas of learning from the EYFS. Our room layouts promote this with clearly defined areas for children, shaped to help them make choices on how to spend their free play.
We want to encourage independence, so having coats / bags and toys placed at their level is really important. We also encourage personal hygiene skills, brushing our teeth after mealtimes, regular washing of hands and will work with you to ensure your children are potty trained before they leave the room.
Our children have access to a water tray, sand box, book corner, writing table and other opportunities to play independently. Xplorers have free access to encourage them to learn and use their environment independently and to learn through play. We blend this approach with structured activities, from arts and crafts to circle time, gardening activities, reading stories together and this combination really supports their overall development.
Children also have access to a range of technology tools to help them learn how to use the internet to enhance their learning, and access educational games and tools to help them build their IT skills.
Outdoor play is essential at this age, and we structure the day to have an outdoor session before and after lunch. Our Xplorers will also spend one session a week in the Forest School, encouraging outdoor play whatever the weather, helping them experience the seasons and all that nature has to offer!

Food & Nutrition
All our food is freshly prepared daily on site by our Chef and we cater for all religious and dietary needs. We will continue to spend time in our garden, teaching children about where their food comes from and encouraging heathy eating through cooking and preparing meals (e.g. making a healthy salad or mixing simple pasta for lunch). Children with allergies and food intolerances are supported.

How can we support you as a parent?
You may hear about a “high scope” approach at this age, and essentially this means parents / families working with the setting to continue a child’s development at home. As an example, for us, this was really helpful as we potty trained our boys. Daily conversations at drop off and pick up with my boys’ key person meant there was a continuity throughout the day – we used the same language, followed the same routine and this ultimately helped the boys see this as a new part of their daily routine.
Whether its potty training, better sleep, hygiene, dressing independently, encouraging learning or physical development, we are there to support you getting your children ready for the next big step in their young lives!
